Second Trimester
Week 14 : you’re officially in the second trimester, and many moms start to feel their best. Enjoy this phase as your baby grows stronger!
Mom’s Health Concerns
Weight gain: Steady increase as baby grows (~0.5 kg per week)
Breast changes: Nipples and areolas may darken
Varicose veins might appear due to increased blood flow
Stretch marks may start forming as the belly grows
Gums may bleed due to hormonal changes
Baby Activities
Your baby is about the size of a Peach (~8.6 cm or 3.4 inches long) and weighs around 43 grams (1.5 oz).
Facial expressions like frowning and grimacing
Thumb-sucking reflex starts developing
Body movements become more coordinated
Lanugo (fine hair) begins forming on the skin
Kidneys start producing urine
Symptoms
Increased energy as first-trimester fatigue fades
Reduced nausea and morning sickness
Stuffy nose or nasal congestion (pregnancy rhinitis)
Round ligament pain due to the growing uterus
Mild swelling in hands and feet
Increased appetite

When to Call the Doctor
Severe abdominal pain or cramping
Heavy bleeding or unusual discharge
Persistent headaches or blurred vision
High fever (above 100.4°F / 38°C)
Severe swelling in the face or hands.
